For over 65 years, SaskAbilities has offered programs and services to Saskatchewan residents who have a disability. In 2019, SaskAbilities offered services to tens of thousands of individuals through branch locations in Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Yorkton. SaskAbilities offers these services through three divisions, Daily Living and Rehabilitation Services, Quality of Life, and Partners in Employment Services (Partners).
Each year Regina and Moose Jaw Partners offers a continuum of supported employment services to approximately 580 individuals who have a disability or employment barrier. Supported employment services are unique in that they recognize that when the right supports are offered at the right time, job seekers are successful in finding and keeping employment. While individual plans are unique in focus and the activities identified, in general, all services fit within one of the following four categories.
- Career Decision Making
- Work Readiness
- Job Searching
- Job Coaching and Maintenance
Keeping a job is as important as finding one, and for that reason Partners offers clients and their employer’s supports onsite as needed. These supports may assist the new employee to smoothly transition into their new duties by supporting the employer to orientate in a way that fits their particular learning style. Coaching and maintenance is also available to work through changes that may negatively affect work. Often these services help to build confidence in either the employer’s skills in supervising the employee, or confidence in the employee to manage things at work in a positive way. The goal for these services is to build independence so that the new employee has competency in their job and the employer is able to supervise the new employee without assistance.
